ATM Statement on the 39th EDSA People Power Anniversary

Alyansa Tigil Mina (ATM) joins the Filipino people in commemorating the 39th Anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution as we express our commitment to continue fighting for our democratic rights and freedoms, and champion the causes of the marginalized.

During this period of historical revisionism, which attempts to erase the nation’s triumph in ousting the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, Sr., it is vital to be reminded of our collective struggle against state repression, human rights abuses, and economic plunder.

We need to remember EDSA that we may persist in our resistance against rampant corruption and the destructive exploitation of our natural resources.

We must not forget EDSA that we may continue our fight against the oligarchy, where political and economic power is wielded by oppressive political dynasties and big business.

We have to re-visit the vigilant and militant spirit of EDSA that we may hold accountable the present PBBM administration and the previous Duterte government for their failures and excesses. Particularly, we need to stand united in demanding the trial of the impeached Vice- President Sara Duterte.

By celebrating EDSA, let us be inspired to pursue our aspirations for social justice and equity, economic rights and democratic freedoms, and environmental protection and climate justice.

We call on all sectors of Philippine society to keep alive and thriving the EDSA Spirit. EDSA did not happen overnight; neither will the victory of our just causes. But we must persist with the fervent hope that we will prevail -- may the EDSA People Power Live on!
